The 6th Lanzhou International Image Biennale 2025 was held in Zhangye. We developed a full visual identity centered on the Hexi Corridor. Colored felt was adopted for the materials—its inherent texture echoes the rough terrain of the corridor. The four hues of orange, blue, green and yellow not only mirror the vibrant tones of Zhangye Danxia Landform but also correspond to Hexi’s four seasons: green for spring, orange for summer, yellow for autumn and blue for winter. This infuses the posters, book covers and staff badges with a local flair both visually and tactilely. The four catalogs, each linked to one of the four exhibition sections, feature die-cut wavy curves at the top. A single catalog presents a simplified local landform of the corridor; when stacked together, the four form the rolling silhouette of the Qilian Mountains, endowing the catalogs with a sense of topographic layering. The recurring geometric squares in the visuals not only trace the route of the Silk Road but also symbolize the various aspect ratios of photographic images. The entire design integrates material, form and color, enabling the visuals to reflect both the Hexi Corridor’s natural scenery and its cultural essence, thus seamlessly uniting the exhibition theme with its visual presentation.
